Black Wedges for Winter and Fall

Wintertime is a great time for black. While black can sometimes be bland and unexciting, conventional even, in the winter it's actually a spectacular color. In winter, while the white snow blankets the earth, a pair of black wedge shoes make a stark contrast. Black is always chic and elegant. It goes with everything and can be worn all year long. However, it goes best in the winter months. Although black shoes in the winter, the black wedges that are available are usually sandals, not exactly a practical shoe for winter.
Black wedges are one of the hottest shoes on the market today. They're sexy, comfortable and they look really great on the foot. They're conventional enough for a professional office and formal enough to wear with most evening dresses. When pairing a pair of black wedges with that perfect little black dress, it's important to distinguish them. A simple, yet elegant, dress needs a shoe with a little oomph. The perfect shoe is a shiny black patent wedge, they have the little bit of zing and are still an elegant style of shoe. They're also super comfortable.
What I've done in this post is put together some really cute shoes that work well all year round (except the boots), but are super terrific in fall, winter and early spring (when the snow and cold still abound). While there are a lot of choices of boots out there, that's a whole other post. Besides it's easy to find a boot to wear in winter, even wedge boots, but it's not easy to find a wedge shoe that works. There are just too many open toe sandal wedges and peep toe wedges out there. And, as I've said many times before, the wedge shoe is particularly gorgeous, comfortable and sexy. No other shoe can function like a wedge.
Designers love to work with wedge shoes. This is evidenced by the number of them coming down the runway. Of course they really love high heels more, but I'm hoping this will change. The problem stems from the belief that wedges belong in a particular category. They're usually wedge sandals or peep toe styles, which makes them useful for only warmer times. Unless you live in a warm climate, you'll be able to wear sandals for about 5 or 6 months a year. Having a pair of shoes which can be warn year round is not just thrifty, its smart.
So why black when there are so many other colors to brighten up the gloom of winter? Well firstly, I don't think winter is very gloomy. There is a lot of gray, sure, but there's also white. The elegance of white and black together is indisputable. It's a natural contrast for every woman that wishes to wear an elegant shoe color, that's also versatile. So black is the perfect contrast is one great reason to showcase only black shoes in one post. The other reason I chose black is because it goes with nearly everything. There is very little black clashes with; navy blue is all that really comes to my mind. It looks better with some colors; white and red to name two, but it also looks good with nearly every other color in your closet. The last reason is that women love black. We do, let's face it. Black is that one pair of shoes that we can always throw on quickly if we're in doubt, or a hurry.
When it comes to winter shoes, there are a lot of choices. Flats, pumps, platforms and boots all abound in a lot of styles, but a pair of black wedge shoes will set you apart, especially a pair of black winter wedge shoes.

There are black wedge shoes comfortable and conservative enough for any workplace and there are those wedges that can take a simple dress and transform the look into something ultra-fabulous in an instant. Then there is the tremendous selection of versatile black wedge sandals that can go from one look to the next without missing a beat.
The classic black wedge is a shoe that can dress up any outfit whether you are running to the market in jeans and a t-shirt, having lunch in a little sundress or attending a dinner party in the evening. There is simply no occasion that you can not find a wedge style shoe that would be appropriate. As versatile as the black wedge can be, there is one of the best parts of a wedge style shoe that we have not yet even begun to address and that is the sexy factor.

Wedge Shoes – The Many Styles

When we think about wedge shoes the most common style comes to mind, the classic wedge heeled dress shoe. What some fail to realize is that there are a lot more options out there then just this one wedge heel style. New concepts on this old favorite are being introduced on store shelves each year and it is spicing things up.
Wedge sandals for example, took the fashion scene by storm only a few years ago. We still see the Espadrille style wedge paired with flowered dresses or jean shorts in the Summer even now. The cork wedge has also became a popular material for these sandals. They're durable and light on the feet making them the perfect warm weather accessory.
If one absolutely must go with a less casual style shoe the limits are nearly endless. T-strap wedges work great with sleek little dresses you would wear for a night on the town while peep-toe wedges would be more suited for an elegant evening gown for a dinner out with your husband or a charity ball.
Slingback and buckle wedges are more suited for the office and pair well with pant suits and other office attire. Wedge shoes work perfect in this setting because while they look stylish and professional they are also comfortable and won't stress the feet as much as pointed heels might.
The patent wedge and pointy-toe wedge are great for religious style services since they tend to favor the more traditional look of women's dress style shoes. These are the more conservative of the wedge shoes.
Mary Jane style wedges are fairly common among young adults and children since they mimic the classic Mary Jane style shoes and pair very well with leggings and fall colors. Mary Jane wedges also look great with a pair of jeans and a cozy sweater.
In Spring and Summer, styles like the crisscross wedge which are made of suede are generally the most common and come in a variety of bright and vibrant colors. Some can also be found with dazzling rhinestones and glitter to make them fun for the sunny weather. Common places to see this style worn are the beach and at the park.
Finally, when Fall and Winter arrive and something with a little more coverage is needed you can always find a wide selection of wedge boots in the stores. Common colors are black wedge shoes or brown wedge shoes, and these look absolutely amazing with heavier skirts and turtle necks. They can also be paired with a fuzzy sweater and skinny jeans for a more casual look.
All of these different styles and names seem a bit overwhelming at first but the decision as to what would best fit your needs is fairly simple if you go with what you feel looks best. There is no rule stating a slingback wedge must be worn in the office so go bold and make a statement about who you are. Rely on friends for suggestions as well and just have fun shopping.

Black Wedge Shoes Under $35

If I was to go shopping today, I'd probably be looking for a pair of shoes that were used. Why? Because I'm a little broke (due to this rather inciting offer: 10% Off Any Purchase at Shoebuy.com plus Free Shipping. Enter 'SHOEBUY' to redeem at checkout.). What can I say.. I'm a little shoe crazy. Thank gawd my husband works all day so he doesn't see the packages arrive. Little tip for those of you buying under the radar, when you shop online, be sure to either a) have a post office address or b) know your postman's time to deliver. Just a little trouble saving for you =).
Now onto the important part of this post; finding the shoes under $35. There are a number of places you can buy merchandise at really low cost.
1) Amazon.com (who offer free shipping and many different merchants)
2) Ebay.com who offer merchants with free shipping and some without, but more importantly offer a lot more variety for $35, including some pre-worn merchandise. Hey don't knock the used gear ladies, you're saving money and the environment!
3) Places like Shoebuy.com
, Shoes.com Sale: Save over 60% plus Free Shipping where there is a congregation of brands and they specialize in shoes only.
Now why are those places so great? Well they have one thing in common. Mass amounts of shoes and all are online. Stores that are online have no storefront overhead. That means no sales staff, no monthly rent on both a store and warehouse, no decorations, no lighting and so on. So those prices don't get marked up 200% like a department store. Another thing, online stores have lots and lots and lots of visible competition. If you go to buy a shoe, you can find that shoe 100 places and, if you're not lazy, at the touch of a "next" link you can find the one offered for lowest price. So those places have to stay competitive. Is it all roses and cheap wedge shoes? Nope. There are downsides to shopping online.
Shipping for one. If some places offer free shipping, they may charge handling. Be wary of that pair of black wedge sandals you just bought, the price jumped 20% when you pressed "checkout" because of tacked on charges. Even if they charge no handling, the shipping costs may raise the price. Now suddenly, instead of a pair of $35 shoes, you just bought a pair of $50 shoes. Meanwhile the place that charges shipping would have totaled out at like $40.
Another thing about online shops is returns. While almost every place has a return policy, guess who pays the shipping back to the vendor? Yup, that's you.
So just be aware of these things when you're shopping online. Now onto the shoes.
I haven't picked out a whole bunch of shoes, because I figure you can find what you want on your own. What I've done, instead, is pick out some great choices of black wedge shoes for under $35 from across two websites so you can see a fairly good representation of the styles available at those prices. You can find many others for lower or higher, depending on your taste.
Steve Madden Black Wedge Shoe
There is a reason this shoe is one of the best sellers on just about every website it's featured on, it's freaking cute as heck and it fits amazingly. Remember what I said in my last article about wedge shoes, to read customer reviews. Well this is no different. One thing they all say is that the shoe runs wide. So be sure to take that into consideration when ordering.
Now, this shoe isn't exactly under $35, but it is available for $34.98 in some of the styles, so technically it counts. But it is such a fantastic shoe, I'm including it, even if the black is more expensive.
Every customer review of this shoe says it is comfortable, despite being 5" wedge heel! That is something to consider.

NASCAR Black Wedge Sandal
Ok this shoe is just cute cute cute. There are limited sizes, which unfortunately is one of the products of being a popular shoe. They run out of most of the sizes and then put it up for sale on Amazon. That is how Amazon works. Great for people that wear the size 9s this wedge sandal comes in, bad for those of us size 8.5 =-(. This shoe is whopping $13 at max price on Amazon.com. Worth every penny even if there aren't any customer reviews.

This shoe is just a basic cork wedge sandal that looks really great with sundresses and jeans alike. There aren't many shoes that go with everything like a cork wedge. This particular style is even great to wear with a dress to a wedding (as long as the dress isn't formal). A little silk sundress or semi-formal dress would pair great with these.
I'm a lover of ankle wraps too, so that's another reason to feature these little lovelies.

Black Wedge Shoes and Black Wedge Sandals Priced to Sell

In a perfect universe I'd find a pair of black wedge shoes or black wedge sandals for $5. There are some really great deals to be had, even if they aren't for $5, although take a look at EBay and you can find some (used ones, but so what, right?). So in the perfect world we not only get our shoes for $5, they would be brand new, fit perfectly and go with everything in our closet. This, however, is not a perfect world. Shoes cost a lot more than $5 and you can't guarantee anything, even if you try them on in the store. I've bought shoes at local dept. stores and put them on for the first time, in 10 minutes my feet have hurt so bad I could saw them off with a butter knife (the feet, not the shoes.. never ever harm the shoes). Trying on a shoe isn't going to mean that shoe is going to be comfortable.
Case in point: One of the sites I buy my shoes on is Shoebuy.com . There are a particularly fantastic pair of black wedge sandals that i was hoping to buy on their site. Now clearly, I'm someone that loves shoes, but I'm also someone that can read proficiently. The greatest thing about Shoebuy.com is that they have this thing called customer reviews. Now when the company itself has a big statement that says the shoe runs small in width, and when I read the first 6 reviews that say the shoe fits small, narrow, I'm smart enough to either skip this shoe or order it in a bigger size, if possible. I won't, however, order my exact size and expect a different result than the company and other buyers have got. It's just common sense when you're shopping online, read the reviews, read the fits and if you're unsure about it, make sure you understand the return policy of the website. And, maybe you'll feel its unnecessary but it's not, write a review of your own and tell other customers of your experience.
Now if you're looking for some great shoe buys, there are really great offers all over the Internet. For me, spending a lot on a pair of shoes isn't a deal breaker. I mean if I see a pair of shoes for $300 I won't automatically turn my nose up at them. However, if I see a pair of shoes for $5 I know a couple of things off the bat:
1) the shoe is probably not leather
2) if it is leather it is probably stolen
3) if it's leather and not stolen it's probably used
4) All of the above
Now I'm ok with 1 and 3, but I'm not ok with 2. I won't buy stolen shoes, because it encourages more theft. You'll find a lot of these markets on EBay and at local flea markets. If a shoe is too cheap, count on one of those things. Too cheap means like $5 or $10, not like $20+. Some shoes, even leather ones, are available for pretty low prices. You won't find many brand names at that price, but stores like Payless carry low cost leather shoes. They probably aren't well made though. =(
If you want to find a good pair of shoes, you need to really focus on a few things:
1) Buy shoes made of real fabrics : leather, satin, suede, (*cough* alligator) etc. Now I realize there are those of us that are against wearing leather, heck I used to be one of you, but I don't care what anyone says, they aren't good for your feet. Leather is great for one reason: It form fits to your foot, and it lasts. That being said, you can find black wedge shoes in cotton, hemp and other PETA friendly materials.
2) Buy shoes that have been tested by consumers and that have their recommendation. Any old store can tell you how good their shoe fits, read what the consumers have to say, instead! There are plenty of shops that have the customer ratings (shoebuy is one of those shops).
3) Test the shoe out for a period of time. The sad fact is that a comfortable shoe in the shop, can turn mighty uncomfortable when you bring it home. I once bought a pair of sandals that were like walking on air, after about 15 minutes of real wear, the shoe began making this soft squishy sound. ugh. Be wary of hollow rubber soles.
